From Budaka to the Universe

Your website,
told as a story

At the end, a few choices only you can make, and a button to send them to us.

Chapter one

Where this starts

You don't want a gallery of photographs. You want a site that presents you.

  • Zendaya for the calm. Beyoncé for the swipe-through gallery.
  • No heavy, shouty type.
  • Two pages: Home, and About / Press.
  • Your work section is called Portfolio. No rates on the site.
  • Live before you fly to Puerto Rico. The final is 24 November.

The photographs in this book are from your sponsorship deck. We used them to show how the real thing will feel; nothing is published until you choose the images.

Chapter two

What it will feel like

November. A journalist in San Juan hears your name and searches it on her phone.

She sees a photograph, full screen. One line under it. She swipes. Ten frames later she knows who you are, and she hasn't read a paragraph.

She taps About: four short paragraphs, your press, one email address.

She writes to you that evening.

01 · Nairobi, 2011. Elite Model Look.
02 · Johannesburg Fashion Week, 2019.
03 · Kampala. The night of the crown.

Three frames of the gallery, with the kind of one-line captions that do the work of a biography.

Zendaya

Four menu items. One photograph. Press set as a plain list with thin rules. A warm stone background and near-black text. That is where the calm comes from.

We take: the four-item menu, the list-style Press page, the stone-and-ink palette.
We leave: the giant name across the screen. Your photographs lead; the type stays small.

Beyoncé

The whole home page is one strip of full-height photographs you swipe sideways through, the edge of the next one always showing. A tiny menu. No paragraphs.

We take: the gallery as the opening of your Home page. Swipe on the phone, scroll on a laptop, arrow keys too. Each frame gets one line: a city, a show, a moment.
We leave: the black background and the shop. Yours sits on stone, and sells nothing.

Chapter four · your words, first draft

Mark it up

Written from your deck and your press. Cut what doesn't sound like you. This is the short bio for Home; the full About text follows once you've corrected this one.

Mitchelle Daka is a Ugandan model, founder and the first Miss Universe Uganda. Discovered at Elite Model Look in Nairobi, signed in Johannesburg, based in Dubai: more than a decade of runways across Africa and the Middle East, an activewear label of her own, and a wellness platform built on one belief, that healing happens through action. On 24 November she represents Uganda at the 75th Miss Universe in Puerto Rico.

"The race is not won by the fastest runner, but by the most consistent one over time."

Your story section opens with this line of yours, then tells it straight: Budaka, the Elite Model Look win, the two rejections and the one email that got you signed at Boss Models, Johannesburg Fashion Week, Dubai, Figures The Brand, The Grounded Woman Initiative. It ends with what the crown is for.

Your words

"All shall pass. Resilience keeps us glowing through it all."

Most reigning queens have no website of their own. You'll be one of the few who does, and it will be yours: your photographs, your words, your name on the domain.
